The End of an Era

I destroyed a little part of my youth today.

In my combined quest to pack and reorganize my room, I threw away my collection of computer games that won’t run under OS X. Such gems as Civilization II, Descent, Warcraft II, Deus Ex, and Sim City found their way to the wastebasket, never again to shine from my monitor. How many hours I spent in those worlds I will never know, but they certainly left an indelible mark on my childhood.

Back in Northfield on Monday. We’ll see how that goes.

  1. Are you sure that they’ll never work again? I still hang onto all of my old games because emulation for PC games has finally come around…

  2. They’ll work now under Classic (the OS 9 environment that runs in OS X). Classic is being phased out, but you’re right that there will probably be some sort of emulator available for the foreseeable future.

I guess for me it’s more a realization that I wouldn’t play those games again anyway. They were great, but it’s time to clean up and move on.

  3. i apologized to matt, and now i should apologize to you as i did not bookmark your blog.

basically i had no idea you traveled everywhere and all those awesome pictures. how long were you abroad? and now you’re going to hungary??? i’m pretty jealous.

yeah, the last time i saw you was on the U of M campus randomly. and now my family is in Texas. so if you’re ever in minneapolis again, feel free to gimme a holler.
